CHARLOTTESVILLE — Construction work on the Berkmar Drive bridge over the South Fork Rivanna River will require all-day closures of Rio Mills Road on Monday and Tuesday while concrete is being poured for the deck surface. Between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. the road will be closed from the Route 29 intersection west to Millers Cottage Lane. The residential properties and businesses along the north end of Rio Mills Road will still be accessible from Earlysville Road.

Rt. 29 Traffic Shift at Hollymead Postponed Until Sunday Night

CHARLOTTESVILLE — The shift of southbound traffic on Route 29 near Hollymead Town Center has been postponed until Sunday night. Beginning at 9 p.m. southbound traffic between Route 1719 (Towncenter Drive) and the entrance to Kohl’s department store will be shifted onto the outside lanes. This will allow work to continue in the median area to prepare for northbound traffic to move onto the new pavement. That switch will happen later this month.

All Lanes Open on Route 29 at North Hollymead Drive, Repairs to Traffic Signals Complete

CHARLOTTESVILLE — All lanes of Route 29 (Seminole Trail) in the vicinity of North Hollymead Drive have reopened to traffic. One lane in each direction was closed early this morning after a commercial truck traveling south on Route 29 snagged the wires that stabilize the traffic signals above the intersection. The signals and the supporting pole were damaged by the impact.

Lane Closure on Rt. 29 North at North Hollymead Dr. at 7 a.m. Friday

CHARLOTTESVILLE — On Friday morning the left northbound lane of Route 29 will be closed to traffic from south of North Hollymead Drive to north of the intersection while repairs are made to a water line in the median. The closure will begin at 7 a.m.; repairs should be complete and the lane reopened to traffic no later than 3 p.m.

Overnight Closures Will Resume at Rt. 29-Rio Rd. Intersection Project

CHARLOTTESVILLE — Beginning tonight there will be overnight lane closures on Route 29 (Seminole Trail) and Route 631 (Rio Road) in the vicinity of the new grade-separated intersection. The closures will allow the contractor to finish work, including installing lighting and sealing and staining the retaining walls, that was not required to be complete prior to opening the intersection to traffic.

Rt. 29-Rio Rd. Grade-Separated Intersection Opens to Traffic 46 Days Ahead of Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE — The grade-separated intersection at Route 29 (Seminole Trail) and Route 631 (Rio Road) will reopen to traffic tonight, 46 days ahead of the scheduled Sept. 2 reopening. CHARLOTTESVILLE -- The City of Charlottesville will host an open forum citizen informational meeting for the Hillsdale Drive Extension project on June 29, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Senior Center, 1180 Pepsi Place.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Rt. 29 Southbound Lane Will Remain Closed Overnight South of Rio Rd. Intersection

CHARLOTTESVILLE (5:30 p.m.) — The right outside lane of Route 29 southbound will remain closed overnight until the steel plates covering an underground storm water storage facility can be properly recessed and secured to the roadway. The work area, about one-quarter mile south of Rio Road, was closed about 4 p.m. Friday after the plates shifted.

Lane-Corman Statement on March 7 Damage to CenturyLink Communications Cable

Lane-Corman, the Route 29 Solutions Construction Contractor regrets the incident that occurred early Monday morning (March 7th) when a communications cable belonging to CenturyLink was damaged and communication in a large part of northern Albemarle County was disrupted.  Lane-Corman has identified what the reason was for the damage that occurred and has taken steps to preclude this type of error in the future.

SERVICE RESTORED TO ALL CENTURYLINK CUSTOMERS

CHARLOTTESVILLE (10 a.m.) — Service has been restored to all CenturyLink customers in the Charlottesville region who were affected by yesterday’s outage. Service was interrupted after a construction crew working on the Route 29-Rio Road grade-separated intersection project damaged an underground cable that carries telephone and data for CenturyLink customers.

CHARLOTTESVILLE (4:30 p.m.) — Repair crews from CenturyLink are working to repair damage to an underground cable that carries telephone and data service for the company’s customers in the Charlottesville region. Technicians will work through the night to restore service and CenturyLink anticipates that service will be restored to all customers by Tuesday morning.

CHARLOTTESVILLE — Lane closures will resume tonight on the Rio Road grade-separated intersection project. Between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. traffic will be restricted to one lane north and southbound on Route 29 (Seminole Trail). OVERNIGHT CLOSURES OF RIO RD. CROSSOVER CONTINUE

CHARLOTTESVILLE — Nighttime work to install anchors for the pilings that will support the bridge and retaining walls at the Rio Road grade-separated intersection will begin Jan. 26. The work, which will be done at night, uses a compressed air-driven hammer to drill the tie-back anchors into the soil behind the pilings.

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC SIGNALS WILL BE INSTALLED AT TWO RT. 29 INTERSECTIONS DURING WIDENING PROJECT

CHARLOTTESVILLE — Temporary traffic signals will be installed next week at two intersections on Route 29 to accommodate construction on the Route 29 widening project. 

The existing signals at Ashwood Boulevard and North Hollymead Drive will be removed and replaced with temporary signals while the roadway is widened. The work is scheduled to begin Monday and will take about a week. Installation of the signal poles will require intermittent lane closures. While the span wires that support the signal heads are installed Route 29 will be closed completely. All the work will be done during nighttime hours, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

CHARLOTTESVILLE — The three right lanes of Route 29 (Seminole Trail) northbound are closed just south of the Rio Road intersection because the rain overnight has caused potholes in the temporary asphalt placed in those lanes during underground utility work. Traffic is moving through the area in the far left northbound lane.

RIGHT LANE ON RT. 250 BYPASS REOPENED TO TRAFFIC

CHARLOTTESVILLE — The right lane of the Route 250 Bypass westbound is open to traffic from the Route 29 (Emmet Street) entrance ramp west to Barracks Road. The lane was closed Wednesday afternoon after engineers with the Virginia Department of Transportation determined that recent heavy rains soaked the soil below the roadway and right shoulder area, causing the soil to shift toward the excavated area. VDOT materials engineers evaluated the measures that were taken to stabilize the soil and determined that the right lane could be safely reopened to traffic.

CHARLOTTESVILLE — The right lane of the Route 250 Bypass westbound is closed from the Route 29 (Emmet Street) entrance ramp approximately one-quarter mile west toward Barracks Road. The recent heavy rains have soaked the soil below the roadway and right shoulder area, causing the soil to shift toward the excavated area. The lane was closed this afternoon after that movement was detected.

RICHMOND — The Commonwealth Transportation Board today awarded an $11,121,077.60 contract to Fielder’s Choice Enterprises Inc., of Charlottesville, to construct improvements to the Route 29 / Route 250 interchange in Charlottesville.
